About Cheryl A. Kosmerl, MSW, LCSW

Hi! I’m Cheryl,

Finding the right therapist is like finding the perfect pair of jeans. Uncomfortable process, but when it fits, everything works better.

I’ve spent over 21 years sitting across from people carrying things they were never supposed to carry alone. Trauma, identity, relationships, the slow grind of just trying to keep it together when life keeps adding to the pile. I don’t just understand these struggles professionally. I’m living them.

I’m a wife, a daughter in the thick of it, and a neurodivergent person navigating midlife in real time. I know what it’s like to be the person holding everyone else up while quietly wondering who is holding you. I know what it’s like to sit in a therapist’s office yourself and need someone who gets it without you having to explain everything from scratch. That’s the therapist I’ve spent 21 years trying to be.

My approach is direct, warm, and honest with enough humor to make the hard stuff bearable. I’m not going to tell you everything happens for a reason or hand you a breathing exercise and call it a day. I specialize in trauma, and I use EMDR and Flash Technique because they work faster than traditional talk therapy, and my clients deserve to feel better sooner rather than later. I also offer low-dose neurofeedback (LENS), which quietly improves focus, mood, and stress tolerance alongside the deeper work we do together.

I work with adolescents, adults, and the parents caught somewhere in between. I’m LGBTQ+-affirming, not as a checkbox but as someone who actually lives it.

My journey into mental health started in my own adolescence when I found healing in therapy and decided to spend my career paying that forward. Outside the office, I’m a DIY enthusiast, a camper, a hot yoga regular, and someone who believes deeply in the restorative power of family time and a good project.

If you’ve been putting this off, you’re not alone. Most people have. But you found this page for a reason, and that’s usually how it starts.

Reach out and let’s find out if we’re a good fit. A free 15-minute phone consultation is the first step, and I promise it’s less scary than you think.
